In this session, History and Government teachers will explore strategies to improve first instruction when teaching complex topics and current events. We'll focus on creating engaging, standards-based lessons that support critical thinking and meaningful discussion. Teachers will also review Board Policy 6144, share resources, and collaborate to build consistency and support across classrooms. Recommended for: Social Science Teachers
Teachers will engage in a collaborative exploration of current research and emerging best practices in grading. We'll examine how traditional grading practices can unintentionally hinder learning and equity, and discuss alternative approaches that better support student growth, mastery of standards, and long-term academic success. Participants will reflect on their own grading practices, consider new strategies, and leave with practical ideas to implement in their classrooms that promote clarity, consistency, and a stronger focus on learning.
